HISTORY
Rain will never be able to rise above the expectations of what her mother feels she should have been.
The youngest child, Rain was born during a rarity in Atsiria, a heavy rain shower. Her mother, Jeia was a successful merchant already with two children and her father had been a Dentorian traveler before he met her mother and they fell in love. Rain grew up with happily. She loved the lifestyle of traveling in a caravan and seeing the country of her birth. She looked up to her elder brother and sister. She also loved the stories her father would tell about the places he had been before he had married her mother.
Jeia was less fond of these tales and would always scold him for filling his daughter’s head with nonsense.
When Rain was ten her father fell ill, and after many agony-filled weeks, he passed away. The family was devastated, and it was after that that things began to change. Her mother became withdrawn and threw herself into securing the livelihood of her children, as she tried to teach them her trade.
Rain could never find anything she was particularly useful at. Her eldest sister had all the brains, and her brother was perfectly content to play second-fiddle to her. Compared to both of them, Rain was humorously incompetent. And she hated it.
Soon her mother grew disgusted and impatient with her youngest. Disappointed with her, Rain was delegated to the heavy-lifting and keeping stock of what they had. What her mother didn’t know was that Rain was just as frustrated with herself. During the day she would listen to everything her family discussed with customers and concerning the business. Then one day late at night after the rest of her family went to bed, she lit a lantern and began to pout over her mother’s log books.
She just wished the words would stop jumping all over the page.
After many hours, even more frustrated than she had been, she grabbed her father’s old bow and arrow, went outside and took shots until dawn. She was surprised when she found her mother watching and being told that maybe she had a talent for it like her father. A passion was born. As the years went by and Rain grew ever more gruff, she fell into a pattern. She would work all day, study for many hours at night trying to will herself to understand, then would top it all off by practicing archery.
It all finally began to pay off. She won archery contests in the cities. This bought the rare approval of her mother. Rain also made vast improvements in her reading skills. As a result of this, Rain began to try and convince her family to give her a second chance with the more important tasks in the business. She believes she would have succeeded if it wasn’t for her eldest sister, Storm who convinced her mother that Rain was useless regarding these delicate matters and would probably lose them money.
Rain was deeply hurt by this statement, and wondered if all the years she had spent to try and get her mother’s favor had been for nothing. She began to think back to all the stories her father told her and began dreaming about leaving her mother’s caravan and going out into the world.
The desire only grew stronger when she discovered her mother had arranged to travel alongside the Prophet and the most colorful collection of people she had ever seen.
PERSONALITY
Rain is very straight-forward and direct. Mostly honest, she doesn't hesitate to speak her mind, even if it will get her into trouble. Easy to get along with, she’s naturally a very friendly person and likes to talk to people. She’s highly intelligent and has a rapier-sharp wit that she is not afraid to use. She likes to see new things and places . Because of her bad reading skills, she absorbs just about everything she hears. Rain is a strange blend of pragmatist and optimist, as she likes to believe that people will always get what they deserve. But when she looks at her own life, she has all the evidence she’ll ever need to prove life isn’t fair.
She’s also extremely passionate and driven. When she sets her mind on something, Rain will stop at nothing to accomplish it. When she gets angry she resorts to an extreme form of sarcasm developed from years of sparring with her siblings. However, she prefers to hold in her own anxieties and frustrations, and is a very private person when it comes to herself. She likes to hide the fact that she has very low self-esteem and is actually an extremely lonely person.
APPEARANCE
Rain inherited her father’s blonde hair which she wears in a short chin-length cut and bright green eyes. She’s taller then the average Atsirian woman at around 5‘6. Rain is also quite limber and flexible. She prefers to dress in casual clothing as it is easy to move around in and comfortable. She carries herself with the same casualness. She has calluses on her hands due to long years of labor and practice with her bow.
